Reefer Madness Takes NYC
Remember watching the 1936 Reefer Madness, a propaganda film about the “horrors” of Marijuana?
Although Reefer Madness was released way before my time, I remember going to the Mini Cinema in Uniondale to watch the movie while laughing hysterically. It was simply ridiculous.
According to MarketWatch
The movie did what it set out to do and now nearly 90 years later, it looks like Cannabis will be legal again one day soon. According to MarketWatch.com, “2018, Colorado legal pot sales topped $1.2 billion, with the state pulling in about $270 million in taxes. Compare that to the approximately $45 million that the state collected in tax on alcohol that same year.” That’s a lot of revenue!
Could you imagine what that would do to NYC and Long Island?
Recently, I attended the Cannabis World and Business Expo (CWBE) Conference at the Javitz Center in NYC. I was surprised to find so many ancillary services to the dispensary business. For example, they had vendors who designed dispensaries, created canisters for flowers and tinctures, professional service firms specializing in Cannabis, and more.
At the CWBE Expo
I was also surprised to see so many different uses for Cannabis. For example, there was a soda company, tincture company, edibles, and flowers. Who knew?
According Project CBD website, CBD, or Cannabidiol “is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis, a plant with a rich history as medicine going back thousands of years.”
The CWBE conference had thousands of people and nearly 100 vendors from Canada and across the USA. In addition to NYC, the conference hosts expos in Los Angeles and Boston.
It will be interesting to see how things progress as marijuana becomes legalized.
